Problem Domain

Our problem domain revolves around food. The objective of our mobile website is to reduce food waste around our communities. We would give people the opportunity to share their excess food with their community. All would be free of charge, except for a small fee if the user wants the food delivered. People would be able to create a listing by adding a photo, title, and description.

Our main “competition” would be OLIO. OLIO is a food-sharing app based in the United Kingdom. They were founded in 2015 and currently have around 2 million users. Their mission is to connect neighbors with each other and with local businesses so surplus food can be shared, not thrown away. With a thriving fanbase, they have currently shared around 4.1 million portions of food, equalling around 12 million car miles saved. While OLIO has been popular within the United Kingdom, we decided to build on OLIO and how we could improve the current flaws in their system. A major addition we decided to add was a loyalty program. This gives the user an incentive to continue using our app, by receiving gift cards or discount codes to their favorite shops or restaurants.
